Full-speed ahead!
It's been one whole year since we first broke ground on our Coastal Farmhouse. It's very gratifying to look back through the pictures and see how much we have accomplished. Building on undeveloped agricultural land has had it's own set of challenges, and building at the coast layers on even more roadblocks, but we have persevered and are almost able to see the light at the end of the tunnel!
Paul and I try to get over to the build site a couple of times a week to meet with our contractor and to admire the progress. Sometimes these trips are disappointing because not much has changed (visibly) or not much seems to be happening. This week, however, we arrived to find a flurry of activity and so much to see! There were painters, finish carpenters and roofers, the septic tanks were being delivered and the trenches were being dug for the utilities along the road... it was wonderful, organized chaos!
My husband and I make a great team because we each obsess over different aspects of the build. Almost everything up until this point has been his area of expertise, and while I am so appreciative of the work he has done to get us to this point, I am super excited about getting to what I consider the "fun" part - finishing details! I have been working on final paint colors, ironing out the crown moulding, door and window trim design, deciding which walls get shiplap, board & batten, and bead board, and choosing rustic beams for the great room ceiling. I have filled up our garage with pallets of tile and boxes of bathroom vanities and fixtures, and am already starting to work on staging our old house for sale - yes, I do have one foot out the door!
Hopefully there will be much more to show you in the next month as the shingles go on the outside, the cabinets go on the inside, and the paint goes on the walls. As soon as the toilets go in, I'm going to start moving boxes in, as well!

The cherry-picker carefully lifted the second-floor cabinets up to the sunset deck, while we held our breath. |
The fog burned off to reveal our spectacular view, but all of the digging really stirs up the dust! |
